BPUL is looking to recruit a suitable candidate for the position below:

Job Title: Quality Inspector

Reports To: Quality Assurance Manager

Duty station: Abattoir – Kigunga

Job purpose:

To ensure compliance to food safety requirements through ante- mortem and postmortem meat inspections, Online quality monitoring during production and verification of cleaning and waste management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensures live birds are received according to specifications through antemortem inspections
  • To carry out ante-mortem and postmortem inspections of the birds received
  • Prepares and completes daily live birds receiving and meat inspection reports to quality assurance supervisor or quality assurance manager
  • Monitoring key equipment to ensure process control parameters are within acceptable limits.
  • Carries out online monitoring of stunning voltage, scalding temperature, evisceration efficiency, temperature monitoring of refrigeration units, products and processing.
  • Carries out online verification of chemical concentrations
  • Ensures offloading of live birds, counting and weighing is done properly to avoid posing physical injury/ stress to the birds
  • Ensures waste matter including blood, feathers, DOAs and condemned, intestines are properly disposed off.
  • Ensures cleaning of working area, wastewater sieve and live bird crates during and after production are done properly.
  • Ensures all chicken is clean, no feathers and chicken are good for human consumption through inspection and removal of non-conforming products.
  • Ensures adherence to food safety and product quality measures through directing employees towards following GMPs during production.

Education:

  • Minimum of diploma in animal production or agricultural sciences and related field OR A level with at least 5 years’ experience in Broiler chicken processing or growing.
  • Training in Food safety/ Good manufacturing practices.
  • Experience in meat inspection

Skills and  Experience:

  • 3 years’ experience in quality assurance in an FMCG environment
  • Quality inspection, auditing and testing experience.
  • Experience in enforcing SOPs
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate quality assurance activities
  • Data capture and reporting skills
  • Training and mentoring skills
  • Excellent monitoring skills
  • Good verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Attention to details
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and within a big dynamic team
