Duty station: Kigunga Office and Katega Office

Job purpose:
The Driver is responsible for role is to safely and effectively drive and maintain BPUL vehicles to a high-quality standard. S/he may also be requested to support BPUL operational activities as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the vehicle is properly loaded/prepared and ready to leave as per the agreed schedule
- Carry out daily, pre-trip, post-trip and other periodical vehicle inspections as stipulated in the BPIL fleet inspection procedures
- Keep all logbooks up-to-date and copies submitted monthly to the Transport Manager
- Ensure third party insurance or registration stickers are always valid
- Alert Transport Manager in writing at least 4 weeks before expiry of insurance or registration
- Always keep the vehicle interior and exterior clean
- Ensure that the vehicle receives the correct maintenance in a timely fashion to prevent avoidable breakdown, and to maximize vehicle performance
- Carefully monitor fuel and oil consumption of the vehicle, taking steps that records are accurate and no supplies are diverted
- Driving in a responsible way, showing care and consideration for other road users, including pedestrians and cyclists and ensuring risks to all vehicles under the Driver’s control are minimized
- Ensure BPIL vehicles are only used for official business and only in accordance with BPIL vehicle use procedures.
- Adhere to scheduled route and destination.
- Carry out any other duties as requested by the Transport Manager
Education:
Minimum Academic Qualifications:
- O’ level certificate or Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE)
- Valid Ugandan Driving License applicable to the class of vehicle being driven, manual transmission essential
Skills and Experience:

Minimum Experience:
- 3-4 years’ experience of professional driving
- Clean driving record
- Defensive driving is an added advantage
- Knowledge of safety regulations, traffic laws and traffic highway codes.
- Ability to work under pressure and flexibility
- Knowledge of more than one Ugandan language is an added advantage
- Experience driving 4×4 and truck vehicles in difficult terrain and in all seasons
- Ability to work as part of a highly functioning team
- Excellent record and time management
- Working mechanical knowledge enabling basic maintenance of vehicle.
- Good oral and written communication
- Attention to detail
- Ability to drive vehicle in an economical manner
